Sumburgh, UK

Sumburgh is located at the southern tip of the Shetland Mainland in Northern Scotland, and Mainland is the main island of Shetland. It is a beautiful place worth a visit and spending some time there, travelling around the island. It is the third largest island of Scotland and the fifth largest of the British Isles. It has an area of 374 square miles. The best way to arrive in Sumburgh is to fly to Sumburgh Airport, which is the main airport serving Shetlands in Scotland. The airport connects the island with mainland Scotland and Norway. There is a car rental at the airport. You can rent a car or a van there (booking in advance is advised) and go on sightseeing of Shetlands. Thanks to car hire at the airport travelling in around Sumburgh is easy. There are many interesting and beautiful places in Sumburgh. You can head first to Sumburgh Head, which is a 100 meters rocky spur. The cliffs of the Sumburgh Head are home to a lot of interesting sea birds. It is also a nature reserve.
Thanks to the cheap car hire at Sumburgh Airport you can also visit the Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, which also serves as a holiday accommodation. It is located at the tip of the Sumburgh Head. The lighthouse was built by Robert Stevenson in 1821, and it was automated in 1991. From the Sumburgh Lighthouse you could go to Jarlshof. You can see there remains dating from 2500 BC up to the 17th century. It is one of the most interesting archeological sites in UK. There are very interesting oval houses, Viking ruins and many other interesting things to see. |
