Poipet Cambodia

Poipet is a small town in Cambodia situated at the border with Thailand. On the Thai side of the border the nearest town is called Aranya Pratet. Aranya Pratet - Poipet is one of the main border crossings between Thailand and Cambodia. There is not much to see in Poipet, but the town receives lots of visitors from Thailand, because of many casinos situated just behind Thai passport counters, but before Cambodian passport counters. This special gambling area attracts many gamblers from Thailand, where gambling is illegal. Many foreigners who live or travel in Thailand come to Poipet on "visa runs". It means they come to renew their visas. Travelers come to Poipet on their way to Angkor Vat temples and Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Poipet has somewhat opinion of a dangerous town at night, but I haven't seen anything dangerous there. |

This is interesting. I have relatives who lived in Thailand for a number of years and visited Cambodia on vacation. I'd really like to know a bit more about this area.
